PHILOSOPHY

編み物は、その土地の気候・地味・地勢など、様々な風土にあった素材や編み方で、人の手によって編まれ継承されてきました。
そして、風土観は時代によって異なり、編み物も少しずつ変化してきました。
私は、長年様々な国に赴きながら学び、日本の土地、環境や風土にあった日本固有のニットを求め、人の手によって一着ずつ大事に編み上げるセーターをつくるために、「YANABA」ブランドをはじめました。
進化と共に、近代では自動機械によって、もの凄い速度で一着のセーターが出来上がります。最近では、編む工程においてほぼ人の手を用いらなくてもセーターが編み上がる機械が開発されました。それは、とても革新的な事でした。
20世紀前半まで人の手によって編まれていたセーターは、親から子へ、子から孫へと、着られなくなったセーターを編みほどき形を変えて伝えてきました。しかし、現代では、この革新的な技術により、多様で安価な素材でセーターが大量生産され、食べ物を消費するように消化・廃棄され、また翌年購入するという大量消費型のサプライチェーンとなってしまいました。
それは、知らず知らずに地球環境に大きな負担を強いています。環境問題が深刻化する現在において、私たちはファッションについてもう一度考える必要があるのです。
小さな動力（人の手）によってつくる手編みや家庭機は、大量の商品をつくることは必要とせず、必要な分だけをつくることができます。
昨今の時代背景により、忘れ去られていた「手をかけて編む」が選択肢の一つになり、我々は、その一助になればと思っています。

Knitting has been handed down from generation to generation by human hands,
using materials and knitting techniques suited to various climates, geographical features,
and geographical conditions of each region.
And, as the climate has changed over the years, knitting has also changed little by little.
I started the “YANABA” brand in order to produce sweaters that are knitted by hand with care,
one by one, in search of knitwear unique to Japan, which is suited to the land, environment,
and climate of Japan.
With the evolution of modern technology, a sweater can be made at a great speed by
automatic machines. Recently, a machine has been developed to knit sweaters with almost
no human intervention in the knitting process. This was a great innovation.
Until the first half of the 20th century, sweaters were knitted by hand and passed down
from parent to child and from child to grandchild. Today, however, this innovative technology
has resulted in the mass production of sweaters made of diverse and inexpensive materials,
which are then digested and discarded similar to food, only to be purchased again the following year,
resulting in a mass-consumption supply chain.
This has unintentionally placed a heavy burden on the global environment.
As environmental issues become more serious today, we need to rethink fashion.
Hand knitting and home machines, which are made by small power -human hands-,
do not require the production of large quantities of products, but can produce only what is needed.
We hope to help make “hand knitting” an option that has been forgotten due to the recent times.
